Castello Bordonaro: history, art and mystery in Cefalù

In the picturesque town of Mazzaforno, a short distance from Cefalù, stands the majestic Castello Bordonaro, an ancient residence linked to one of the most influential houses in the area. This historic building is a perfect combination of architectural charm and testimony to the past.

The structure was built around a medieval tower, which over the centuries has been expanded and enriched. Among its most fascinating features are the hidden gates, designed to ensure quick and safe access to the tower in case of danger. An ingenious defensive system that tells a lot about the strategic needs of the time.

Inside, the rooms of the tower are adorned with extraordinary frescoes, true stories for images that trace the historical events related to the conquest of Sicily, transforming the castle into a small gallery of historic art.

The Bordonaro Castle is also linked to the spirituality of the territory: it is in fact connected to the church of Santa Felicita, built on the initiative of the archdeacon of the cathedral of Cefalù, demonstrating the religious and cultural importance of the Bordonaro family.

Today, this architectural jewel has been converted into a representative office of the Municipality of Cefalù, keeping intact its symbolic value and continuing to preserve centuries of memory and beauty.
